Last week we hosted a co-design session with Matt McShane, the Founder of Safely Secured, an Anti-Theft Dog Harness and Lead Company based out of Melbourne. After this session we were fortunate to hear about Matt’s experiences with setting up and managing money for his business, here’s what he had to say:
What is Safely Secured and the products / services it offers?
Safely Secured is the world’s first Anti-Theft Dog Harness and Lead Company based out of Melbourne. “Our products help dog owners around the world achieve peace-of-mind by allowing them to leave their dogs unattended outside of shops and cafes.”
Why did you decide to start your own business?
Independence. The thought of working ‘for a boss’ for the next 35 years fills me with dread. I want to be my own boss and enjoy the flexibility that comes with it.
What are your top 3 frustrations with managing money for your business and what would a better future look like?
- Having to constantly copy transactions from my bank to my trusty spreadsheet (I’m a late adopter to Xero and Quickbooks)
- Not knowing what category each transaction classes as which frustrates my accountant at tax time
- Getting people to pay invoices on time!
